For families
Is it free for families?
Yes. Families never pay us anything, and we don't take a cut of what you pay a carer or cleaner. Carers and cleaners pay a small yearly fee to be listed.
Do you check the carers and cleaners?
We're an introduction service, so we don't vet or employ anyone. What carers and cleaners tell us about themselves, such as insurance, DBS checks and training, is self-declared, and we show it that way. Take your time getting to know them. Things like a DBS certificate, insurance and references can give extra peace of mind, and our short guides explain what to look for.
Is a DBS check required?
Not by law when you hire a self-employed carer or cleaner privately. It's one option among several, alongside meeting them, a trial visit and how your loved one gets on with them. If it would give you peace of mind, it's perfectly reasonable to ask.
How do you decide who's shown first?
By how well they match what you asked for, then how close they are. Carers and cleaners can pay to appear first in their area, but only for families who need what they offer, and they're always clearly labelled “Sponsored”.
What happens to my details?
We only share your details with the carers and cleaners you choose, and only after you've confirmed your email address. We delete your details after 12 months without any activity, and we'll email you before we do.
What if there's nobody near me?
You can join our waiting list. We'll email you once, as soon as someone who can help joins in your area.
Can I leave a review?
Yes. A few weeks after an introduction we'll email you a private link. Only families we've introduced can leave a review, and we read every one before it's published.
What if I'm worried about someone?
Please report a concern on our website or email us at hello@carersandcleaners.co.uk. We read every report and can pause or remove a listing straight away. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.
Do you cover Northern Ireland?
Not at the moment. We cover England, Scotland and Wales.
How do I delete my details?
Go to Delete my details and enter the email address you used. We'll email you a link to confirm, and once you tap it your details are deleted straight away. Carers and cleaners can delete their account from their profile.
For carers and cleaners
How much does it cost?
£1 a year to be listed, paid through Stripe. It renews automatically, so you don't need to pay again yourself, and you can cancel at any time.
Do you take commission?
No. You set your own rates and agree your work directly with families. Whatever they pay you is yours.
Do I need a DBS check or insurance to join?
No, but many families will ask, so it helps to have them. Whatever you tell us is shown as self-declared, so please be accurate.
How long does approval take?
Most profiles are approved within a working day. If we need you to change anything, we'll tell you exactly what.
Can I offer care and cleaning?
Yes. One profile can offer both, and families searching for either can find you.
What are social media links?
An optional extra that helps families feel confident in you. Add your business Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn page for £5 per link per year, and families who have chosen you can look at your work, reviews and experience before they meet you. The links appear in their introduction email, not on your public profile.
What is a sponsored position?
An optional extra for £4.99 a month: you appear first, labelled “Sponsored”, when families in your postcode area search for the kind of help you offer. There are only two sponsored places per area for care and two for cleaning, it opens once at least three providers are listed there, and it renews monthly until you cancel.
Will I be employed by you?
No. You stay self-employed and run your own business, including your own tax and insurance. We simply introduce you to families.
How do I cancel or update my card?
Sign in to your profile and choose “Manage payments”. You can update your card, change your social links or cancel. If you cancel, you stay listed until the end of the year you've paid for.
