Privacy notice
We know you may be sharing details about someone you care about. We keep what we collect to a minimum, use it only to make introductions, and delete it when it's no longer needed.

Who we are
Carers & Cleaners is run by MJC, which decides how your information is used (the “controller”). Our full legal details are on our legal details page. You can contact us at hello@carersandcleaners.co.uk.
If you're looking for help
What we collect
- Your postcode, and what you're looking for: care, cleaning or both, the services you tick, roughly how many hours, which days and any preferences.
- If you ask for an introduction or join the waiting list: your first name, email address and, if you give it, your phone number.
- Which carers or cleaners you asked to be introduced to, and any review you leave.
Some of what you tell us, such as needing dementia care or personal care, can reveal information about someone's health. We only use it to find people who can help, and only with your explicit consent, which you give by ticking the box before you search.
How we use it
- To show you carers and cleaners who cover your area and offer what you need.
- To send your first name, email and phone number to the people you choose, and only after you've confirmed your email address.
- To send you their contact details, a few short optional guides, and later a link to leave a review.
- If you join the waiting list, to email you once when someone who can help joins near you.
We rely on your consent for this. You can withdraw it at any time: use “Stop these guides” in any guide email, or delete your details.
How long we keep it
We delete your details 12 months after your last activity, and we'll email you two weeks before we do. You can ask us to delete them sooner at any time. If you left a review, it stays on the carer or cleaner's profile but without your name.
If you're a carer or cleaner
What we collect
- Your email address, which you use to sign in.
- Your profile: name, phone number, postcode and the areas you cover, what you offer, your rates, when you're available, any languages, whether you drive, your description and photo, and what you tell us about insurance, DBS checks and training.
- Any social media links you add, and whether you've paid for your listing, social links or a sponsored position.
How we use it
- To show your public profile: your first name, photo, description, services, rates, availability, the area you cover and what you've told us about checks. Your surname, phone number, email address and full postcode are never shown publicly.
- To send you enquiries from families who choose you, with their contact details.
- To share your email, phone number and any paid-for social links with families who have chosen you, in their introduction email.
- To run your listing and payments, and to keep the site safe.
We use your information to provide the service you've signed up for (our contract with you), and to keep families safe and the site free of misuse (our legitimate interests).
Automatic checks. Profiles are checked automatically for warning signs, such as a phone number in the description or rates far outside the usual range. If something is flagged, a person looks at it before any decision is made. You can always ask for a decision about your profile to be reviewed by a person.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account, which you can do at any time from your profile. Records of past introductions are kept without your details. Payment records are kept by Stripe for as long as the law requires.
Reports of concern
If you report a concern, we keep your name, email and what you tell us so that we can look into it and keep people safe. We delete reports 12 months after we close them.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of trusted companies to run the site. They only handle your information on our instructions:
- Supabase: stores the site's information, in London.
- Cloudflare: hosts the website and runs the security check that keeps automated spam out.
- Resend: sends our emails.
- Stripe: takes payments from carers and cleaners. Card details go straight to Stripe and we never see them.
Some of these companies are based outside the UK, or may process information outside the UK. Where that happens, they're required to protect it to UK standards, using the safeguards the law requires. We never sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Cookies and similar technology
We only use what the site needs to work. If you're a carer or cleaner, your browser stores a small sign-in record so you stay signed in. Our security check from Cloudflare looks at technical details from your browser to tell people from automated spam. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't use analytics that follow you around the web, so we don't need to ask you about cookies.
On the sign-up pages for carers and cleaners, we count anonymously how many people reach each step, such as opening the page or asking for a code, so we can see where people get stuck. These counts don't use cookies and don't include anything that could identify you.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it, or to delete it;
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it;
- ask for your information in a form you can take elsewhere;
- withdraw your consent at any time.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
Carers & Cleaners is for adults. You need to be 18 or over to use it.
Changes
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll tell you by email.
