Proof of insurance
This one's quick. A self-employed carer or cleaner should have public liability insurance, which covers accidents, injuries and damage to your home while they're working. Ask to see the certificate, and check:
- the name matches theirs
- it's in date
- it covers the work they'll be doing: care and cleaning are often insured differently
