Is any help free after a hospital stay?
Often, yes. Ask the ward about reablement: short-term support at home to help someone get back on their feet. In England it's free for up to six weeks; elsewhere, ask the hospital or the council.
When should we start looking?
Before discharge, if you can. Hospitals can discharge at short notice, and having someone lined up makes the first days much easier.
Can a carer collect Dad from hospital?
Many can. If they're driving, ask whether their car insurance covers business use.
