Questions for a first meeting
Meeting in person is your chance to see if you get on, and to agree exactly what's expected. If you can, have another family member there too.
Questions worth asking:
- What experience do you have with needs like ours?
- What will you do, and what won't you do? Agree this clearly, especially for personal care or any help with medication.
- Which days and times can you do, and what happens if you're ill or on holiday?
- What would you do in an emergency?
- How do you keep a note of visits, and how will you keep us updated?
- What do you charge, how do you like to be paid, and what's your cancellation policy?
- How should keys and access to the home be handled?
Never give anyone your bank cards or PINs, and keep money and valuables out of sight. Above all, trust your instincts: if something doesn't feel right, you don't have to go ahead.
