About decluttering

What it usually involves

Sorting rooms, cupboards or lofts and deciding what to keep, give away, sell or recycle, often before a move or to make a home safer.

How a self-employed cleaner can help

Patient, practical help at your pace, with nothing thrown away without your say-so.

Questions worth asking

Questions people ask

Will you throw things away without asking?

They shouldn't. Agree the rules first: nothing goes without a yes.

Can decluttering make a home safer?

Yes. Clear walkways and fewer trip hazards make falls less likely.

What happens to things we don't keep?

Charity shops, selling, recycling or the tip. Anyone taking rubbish away should be a registered waste carrier.

Why I started Carers & Cleaners

When my mum, Jean, was diagnosed with dementia, I found it surprisingly hard to find good local help. In the end we found a wonderful independent carer, and later a cleaner, by word of mouth. I built Carers & Cleaners so other families don't have to rely on luck.

Join as a cleaner

Carers & Cleaners is an introduction service. We don't vet or employ anyone, and what carers and cleaners tell us about themselves is self-declared. Families choose who to speak to and agree everything with them directly.
